Women’s Hike at Chief Mountain

September 8 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

Storyline Women's Hike at Chief Mountain

The first Storyline Women’s hike will be to Chief Mountain on Saturday September 8th at 8:30 am. This beautiful hike is located off Squaw Pass Road between Evergreen and Mount Evans in the Arapaho National Forest. Chief Mountain is a delightful easier peak introducing newer hikers to higher elevations and can be hiked by all ages. From the 11,709 foot summit of Chief Mountain, the views are spectacular in every direction. You will be able to see the Continental Divide, Mt. Evan, Torreys and Grays, Pikes Peak and Longs Peak. You will enjoy hiking on a good trail through forests of Bristlecone pines, fir and aspen, seeing interesting rock formations, and finally the short scramble to the rocky summit with views matching those from any fourteener.

Hike Description- Easy/moderate hike. Hike up trail to Chief Mountain with switchbacks that take you up on the mountain face for a total round trip distance of approx. 4 mile and elevation gain for 1,200 feet.

Hike Directions- For those that want to meet and carpool, we will meet at 7:30 am at the Matthew/Winters parking lot. It is located by taking the Morrison Exit off I-70 and turn left (south) on Colorado Hwy. 26 approx. 0.1 miles and turn right at entrance to park. We will carpool to the trailhead 45-60 minutes by taking I-70 west to the Evergreen Parkway Exit (exit 252). Follow Colorado Hwy. 74 south 2 miles to Bergen Park to the Mount Evans/Squaw Pass Road (Colorado Hwy. 103) and turn west for 13.2 miles approx to the parking area on the North (right) side- between mile markers 19 and 18 just passed the turn in for Echo Mountain Ski Area. Hikers not carpooling with the group can meet us here to start the hike at 8:30.

Hike Gear- Always be prepared for all weather conditions, so plan to pack in your backpack a long sleeve shirt/jacket, rain jacket, hat, gloves, long pants, sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, lunch/snacks, 1-2 liters of water, good supportive hiking shoes/boot, hiking poles if you want for rocky/steep areas.

We hope that you will join us on this inaugural Storyline Women’s hiking event!
