11 Sep Why Multiply?
Have you ever heard the saying, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime”? In a way that is the principle at work when we talk about our value of “Multiplication, not addition.”
We want to be the kind of church that multiplies on two levels:
Individually: making disciples who make disciples.
We reject the idea that staff members are the paid pros, and church members are passive spectators. We want to begin raising up new leaders who are actively growing and serving. We see our role as equipping the Church to do the work of the ministry. Instead of onboarding a new staff minister each time a need arises, we’d prefer to train the people of Storyline to use their gifts, strengths and interests for the glory of God and the spread of His Name.
Corporately: sending out leaders and resources to plant churches.
Hopefully, by now you’ve heard us mention our Church Planting Residency program. This year, we plan to send out our first planter, Chris Phillips, to the Stapleton area. It is our sincere hope that we’ll also send out some of you—regular people who want to see God glorified and the Church multiplied. Sure, it may seem like we are losing important people and resources that we could use at Storyline, but we believe that when we send out the best of our best, it leaves room for new leaders to step in and fill the gap. This week in our services, we had the chance to pray over two planters who are walking through “Multiply” training alongside Chris Phillips. These three guys will be starting new churches in the coming months, and we are excited to be a part of their journey!
