04 Feb The Backstory: Our First Sermon Series
According to the Bible, human history could be likened to enthralling theatre. In this opening 12-week sermon series, I’ll preach through the entire storyline of Scripture, marked by four striking scenes. These crossroads moments tell the story of who we are and how we arrived here. In 2015. On planet earth.
- Creation (Feb. 8, 15, 22) In the beginning, there was one great, big God. When He spoke, planets went spinning into place, including our watery world. He is the First Cause, the Prime Mover.
- Fall (March 1, 8, 15) Our Creator God desired to live in fellowship with human beings, to enjoy community with those He created. When tempted by a fallen angel, our progenitors caved, and hid their rebellion from God. Sin came into the world, like a vicious virus, and infected everything.
- Redemption (March 22, 29-Palm Sunday, April 5-Easter) Unconditional love was the trademark of our Creator God. When His people went prodigal, He refused to give up. With passion, He pursued their hearts, and took their place of punishment. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, a human being can be off the hook for his sins. Hope dawns.
- Restoration (April 12, 19, 26) A future date is fixed, the moment when the scales of justice are leveled. Sin will be finally and forever demolished. Death has its death. The faithful are ushered into an idyllic kingdom where they will dwell forever in joy. Rebels are destined to an eternity of sorrow, separated from the God who so loved them that He sent His Son to save them. Time is of the essence.
