19 Jul Update #1: Members Meeting Recap
It was good to be together so many of our church family on Wednesday evening for our Special Members Meetings. If you weren’t able to be there, here is a quick summary of that gathering.
After a time of worship, we focused on three big areas: an update on the plan for searching for a new lead pastor, a look at where we are as a church in the transition, and a time of focused prayer before the Lord.
The Search Process
Our elders (Jeff Schaffer, Dennis Horner, and Tim Golen) explained what our church by-laws say about how Storyline is to go about choosing a next pastor in the event of a lead pastor transition. The elders explained that they are in the process of choosing a Pastor Search Team that will work alongside the elders and staff in searching for, reviewing, and recommending to the church the next lead pastor of Storyline. Once the Pastor Search Team is in place, they will move forward with those tasks and provide regular updates to the church. For those who have a question or comment about the search process, or would like to nominate someone for the Pastor Search Team, our elders are available by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by comment cards available at the info area.
A Healthy Church
Next, our elders spoke to the overall health of our church, and the plan for leadership in the transition. Jason Little will serve as Transitional Pastor, leading the overall staff and day-to-day ministry operations. Other interim positions are filled by Jamie Patrick in Children’s Ministry and David Gothard and Jessica Williams in Student Ministry. We are thankful for these leaders continuing and stepping into new roles in the transition!
Financially, we are in a very healthy position, and our staff team continues to lead with wisdom, skill, and experience. In fact, there is much to look forward to in the days to come all across our ministry areas including kids ministry, middle school and high school ministry, Home Groups, and more. Our staff and elders are hopeful for the future!
A Season of Prayer
We closed the gathering with a season of guided prayer. People all over the room gathered into small groups and prayed fervently, thanking the Lord for all He has done at Storyline over the past four years, and then praying specifically for several things. We prayed together for our elders and staff as they lead, for the unity and health of our church during the transition, for the Mandrell family as they begin a new chapter of ministry, and for the Pastor Search Team and the candidate the Lord will lead them to in the days to come.
In seasons of uncertainty, sometimes it’s just good to be with family. And as a church beginning this new chapter of our story, it’s good to remember that as we stay unified as a church family, and humbly ask the Lord for His wisdom and leadership throughout our search for a new pastor, He has promised to lead us every step of the way. We’re thankful to be a part of a church that seeks the Lord and His Word first, and waits in eager anticipation for what He will do!
